Opening at CoCA: Denys Watkins & CHCH Zine Library

Join us to celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions: Denys Watkins’ Dynamo Hum in our Ground Floor Gallery & Christchurch Zinefest with The Corner Store, the CHCH/Ōtautahi Zine Library, in the Lux Gallery on Friday 3rd August, 5.30pm.

Dynamo Hum features a selection of key paintings by Denys Watkins – one of New Zealand’s outstanding visual artists. The exhibition is the first travelling survey of recent works by Watkins, a practicising artist for nearly fifty years, whose work is featured in public and private collections around the country.

The CHCH/Ōtautahi Zine Library is a collection of zines from national and international artists, writers, designers, photographers and other creatives. The library is a growing archive of underground and DIY zine culture, and is a culmination of a growing Christchurch zine community. The zine library is run by Zinefest Christchurch and M/K Press Ltd and the showing of it is facilitated by the Lux Gallery collaboration with The Corner Store.

Toast CoCA’s iconic building at its 50th anniversary dinner and help raise funds to keep the doors open another 50 years!! A significant example of Christchurch’s own style of Mid Century design, CoCA relies on philanthropic support to maintain our purpose built gallery as well as present compelling contemporary arts experiences within it’s walls. Join us for a spectacular night of art and fine dining to benefit our building and the Christchurch artist’s we support.

The menu will be curated by chef Giulio Sturla of award-winning Roots Restaurant, with each dish paired with a wine from Amisfield. Ambiance will be orchestrated and directed by Madame and the Bastard (aka. regarded artists Julia Morison ONZM and Heather Straka) assisted by their minions – some of Christchurch’s most talented artists.
